eSchola 2001 was a tremendous success, it allowed thousands of schools to show what they do and share experiences. eSchola 2002 will open up to even more schools and create a unique window on the excellence of European education.

The Comenius Week took place in Brussels and in all European countries from November 24 to November 27. The Comenius Space team, together with 18 young European reporters, followed all the events. Take a look at what happened and visit the Comenius Space web site to take advantage of all its facilities and services: partners, information, communication tools, project gallery…and above all, a true network of teachers and children who share projects at European level.

_________________________________________________The planning team had a meeting in Brussels from November 21-25th. One of the results is an additional collection of more than 80 valuable freeware-programs that will soon be published on the site of European Schoolnet. In addition one of the members suggested an evaluation-sheet that can be used by the children to evaluate educational software.
We also developed new ideas to invite a lot of new members to our Primary Education community within EUN. Please join, you will discover and share a lot of ideas and materials with fellow-teachers.Contact primary schools:

Projects and Initiatives
_________________________________________________The Trek, project for European pupils, is now offering a new web site in 7 languages. Let your pupils get on a balloon trip!
The balloon will take off from the source of a magnificent river - high in the mountains.
The river will cross three countries and pass through many important cities.
The balloon will visit 10 of the most interesting cities along the river before reaching the river mouth and the sea.
Beware , there may be dangers and surprises on the way!
This project is based on problem solving pedagogy and will trigger interest from many young people willing to learn and have fun in a safe environment.http://www.edu.dudley.gov.uk/c2000/
_________________________________________________For Teachers of English, France
Olivier is a teacher of English in France. He is one of the very few who feel that it is important to share resources and experiences with others via the world wide web.
His own site is full of very nice interesting documents and he will be very happy to answer your questions, help you and share with all language teachers. His web site:

_________________________________________________Eurogame, European Regions
Learning European geography through multimedia tools and resourcesEUROGAME is designing, building and testing a game-oriented, multilingual, multimedia tool for teaching and learning European geography. Moving towards an integrated European society allows more opportunities to improve our knowledge of other European countries. There is no better way of learning European geography than by gaining first-hand experience of a different country.
As this is impossible for the majority of schools and colleges in Europe, a second option is to produce a multimedia, interactive environment to stimulate interest. In this way, pupils not only gain knowledge about the areas, but also learn what it is like to live there directly from people in the region.
The project is producing two series of simulation games for 11-14 and 15-18 year olds on "Adventure" and "Strategy" and some "Puzzle games" especially designed for training purposes.Contact: sylvie@silogic.fr

The idea behind this project is to work and learn with pupils (age 10 –12) on the question “What can I do, as an individual student, to contribute to the safety in my school?”
"My Safe School" is like an attitude… an ongoing process. Pupils realise that they can make a contribution to the safety in their school.
The project provides a work schedule and teacher guidelines; Internet based support and provides pupils the possibility to express themselves on safety. Pupils in a class promise to contribute and 4 weeks later they report about experiences; success and failures.

_________________________________________________Musagora, Forum Ancient Languages
This extraordinary project is implemented by the French Ministry of Education, it is an online platform for teachers of ancient languages. There you will find high quality resources on the project’s main theme: muses. Many examples are provided by the highly qualified “Louvre.edu” team.
Most materials are in French for now, but there will soon be other language versions.BUT the problem of languages is not really relevant in this case as teachers of Latin and ancient Greek can easily communicate! A special forum allows you all to share ideas and teaching methods in the ancient languages you teach!

Cultural Exchange with Italy
A direct call:
“We are a group of Italian Primary Schools from Treviso (30 Km far from Venice) , our children are aged between nine and eleven. We’d like to correspond in English or French with pupils of the same age for a linguistical as well as cultural exchange. We’d also like to correspond in Italian with pupils from 7 to 10 years with children of the same age attending Italian Schools abroad.”

____________________________________________________This Italian primary school would like to set up a communication project via video-conference with very young children. The project would be called “Friendship among pupils of the world”, and the purpose is to network very young children, allow them to exchange, see each other and discover that there are potential new friends all over the world.

____________________________________________________A message from Rod Kissinger:
“I have a class of 5th graders (10 and 11 year olds) who would like to do a mascot exchange with a class in Europe. The project would involve each class selecting a mascot (small stuffed animal) that could be mailed to the other class. Each student in the class would take turns taking the mascot and a digital camera home with them for one night. They would create a writing exercise detailing where they took the mascot, (home, movie, to a park etc..) and take a digital picture of the place with them and the mascot in the picture. The writing assignments and pictures would then be posted on the net so that each of the classes could see where their mascot had been.We can provide web space if the class in Europe does not have a server.”

____________________________________________________"Travelling together" is an international project set up in collaboration with the AIIG Association, the Italian National Association of Geography teachers. Students aged 9 to 19 study their territory, they prepare the map for a journey in their country and invite young people of the same age to join for a travel together.
This is great project, also highlighted in eSchoolnet collaboration area for your contributions.
I guess the results may be of great help to teachers organising school trips. The journeys will be shown at:

If your pupils learn French or speak French, if they are between 11 and 18 years old, this is a very nice writing competition. Children have to imagine that they are someone else, a king or a farmer, a politician or a film star, an alien or a singer, then write the character’s personal diary!
