Hi, here, there and everywhere :-)

A special call this time for a special project:
Yann Artus Bertrand, one of the most well known aerial photographers, is working on a project on Europe.
His team contacted me to find places where there would be an outdoor painting representing the European countries or one of the European symbols (flags, the euro..), in a schoolyard or on the wall of a school or wherever...
If there is a painting, a sculpture, a flag, something that symbolises Europe in your school or on your school, please contact the team and put your school on this prestigious aerial picture of Europe.

His web site:

Your contact : Sibylle d’Orgeval

My best wishes to you all,
Brigitte

If you are a teacher, if you want to integrate new technologies to your daily work and if you are interested in international collaboration, eSchoolnet is your web site.
We do not compete with national portals, we open the gates to all countries and projects. Our major goal is to help innovative teachers work, exchange, learn and create with international partners.
The web site is divided into five main areas: Practices, Collaboration, Resources, Training and the Virtual Magazine.
Each area is run by teachers and those people are working for you, to help you and promote your work.

Launch Event in Paris

eSchola 2002 officially launches on at the Salon de l'Education in Paris. eSchola first started last year, and it’s great success has made it one of European Schoolnet’s major projects. It’s an online festival of eLearning taking place from 8 April to 9 May 2002 – read more.

At 11.30 on 22 November 2001 eSchola is launched!

Thousands of schools come together to share experiences, collaborate, get inspired,  celebrate Europe and learn together. All schools are invited to contribute, collaborate and take this chance to display their strengths and learn from the achievements of their peers.

It includes regional and national events, online training and activities, the hugely popular eLearning Awards, long-term collaboration projects, cross-border knowledge exchange and many more activities involving innovation and best practice using education technology.

The launch event takes place at the European Schoolnet’s area of the French Ministry stand in Hall 7.2.2 of Paris Expo, at Porte de Versailles. Members of the eSchola team tell visitors to the Salon de l'Education about eSchola 2002 dates, activities and how they can get involved.

Kids on roller skates are moving around the Salon the whole day and handing out information material. The eSchola launch will be celebrated with VIP speeches, presentations and special surprises for visitors.

Take part in eSchola 2002, visit our stand and join our Europe-wide community!

Working Together, France

This is a very successful French project, here is how it works:
The work is composed of four stages:
First, students get acquainted with the IBM software Quickplace dedicated to cooperative work and organise their mail box.
Secondly they introduce themselves.
The third part deals with cultural life.  Students do a presentation--text and pictures-- of a cultural event specific to their own country.
Finally, students collaborate on a topic, chosen at the start of the session, dealing with the economic life.
The results of these activities are recorded on the site of each virtual class; using  only English.

The team would like to expand, use different multimedia devices like video-conferencing for instance.
If this experience inspires you,  do not hesitate to get in touch with the coordinator:

Your participation will help us make our site more useful.  Each time you review content or try out lessons on a particular topic with your students, they will send you FREE material about the UN for your school or classroom as a token of our appreciation.  If you are interested in helping out, visit:

Twin up with Israel

"Twinning" is the proven method of building bridges between communities and groups within  those communities. It can and should act as a vehicle and catalyst for building real communication  between people of differing or similar backgrounds who are geographically distant,  but motivated to discover and close that gap with understanding. For twinning between  Jewish and Israeli schools and communities visit http://www.jajz-ed.org.il/twin/twintro.html and for general twinning programs the indication is http://www.jajz-ed.org.il/twin/twinproj.html
In any case Gila Ansell-Brauner Educational Consultant at the Jewish Agency for Israel will be  glad to help you find a suitable partner: Gila-ab@jazo.org.il

An Important Thing For Me, Finland

A message from the virtual school’s Arts Department:
“We have a Europe club in our primaryschool. (Itä-Pakilan ala-aste, Helsinki, Finland) We are doing computer graphic collages right now. For those collages we need digital photos from Europe. So, can you send us images by e-mail? You don’t have to send photos from all your pupils. Even two or three is great!

"Important thing for me" means maybe something concrete thing, so you can take a photo about it. My pupils took pictures like keys, books, different toys and so on. But children have to decide themselves. It would be nice, if children will take photos themselves, but teacher can do it as well. Background of the photo shouldn’t be too colourful. It could be red, green or whatever, but only one colour, if it’s possible, please!

What shall we do with all those photos?
Also children must know, that when they send us a photo, we have rights to publish it in the web or in our exhibitions. Also we can put photos together in big collage and little bit change (for example draw) photos, but not funny way! So nobody will hurt, I hope.
When we publish our collages, we just tell name of the artist. Also we will tell first names and countries about original photos. Later we will send you web-address where you can find readymade collages.”

Find New Friends, Italy

A very “fresh call” from a Southern colleague:
“Hello! I'm an Italian teacher and I 'd like to participate in e-mail exchanges to improve English abilities, to improve social and communication skills, to use new technologies in a friendly way.
For these reasons I am looking for penpal friends from all of Europe. My pupils are 10/11 years old. Write to me as soon as possible, please!”

Space Odysseus Project, ESA

An educational board game about space and astronomy for pupils aged 8 to 14.
The team is looking for other schools in Europe to do work together on a game that is already devised. Each schools has to work only with its national resources but ESA has to send to every game-builder documents about European Space Conquest or every space topic... ESA (the European Space Agency) will open a special website to link every participant school.
Students have to find questions and answers in every resource, to test the game, to compare what the others schools finds using Internet and e-mails.
They need many documents to find questions, to illustrate playing board and cards, some websites addresses, the "ESA label".
This is a project in which each school has to work in Space Science and history, in Astronomy, in language (to do questions and answers, to explain the game, to help the referee), in Internet (to communicate with others game-builders and resources sites), in geometry (to build the board), in arts (to select or to do illustrations using Space Art). Each school send it work to others or to the special ESA project.
A committee of teachers and ESA staff will choose the best questions and illustrations to build the “ultimate” game.
At the end of the project (June or December 2002) this European game should be printed by a game editor with the ESA label.

This is an invitation to international collaborative novel writing in French, English, German, Spanish and Arabic. More than 6000 pupils aged 8 to 18 and from 30 different countries have already tested and enjoyed this project.
Some themes are proposed to the participants then it’s up to the pupils to let their imagination flow. A great exercise to improve writing skills.
