Dear colleagues,
As well as our usual calls for partnerships, we offer you many interesting resources this week and some news about eSchola and myEurope!
The eSchola initiative is developing well and will be quite an outstanding feature of the world of European education in the coming years. The myEurope project is blooming and will be even further developed over the coming months with more activities, chats and projects.
Outside schools, winter seems to be back in many European countries after what seemed to be a first feel of Spring…never mind, we create our own online European flowers together before the real ones come to invade our parks and gardens!
My kindest regards to you all :-)
Brigitte

The eSchola Collaboration Area has a theme: Europe across time and space. This theme allows all teachers of all subjects to identify themselves to any sub-area and contribute, submit projects and take part in activities.
The principle is to travel around Europe using different means of transport. You choose the way you want to travel and discover Europe as well as European collaborative projects and activities. Here are the options:
Time machine: Europe across time (political, social and scientific history)
Bus: Europe for fun (festivals, events, places of interest, tourist information for teachers and classes)
Bicycle: Observe Europe at your own speed (environment, geography, rivers, fauna and flora)
Rocket: Europe from the sky (satellite pictures, meteorology)
Broomstick: Magical Mystery tour of Europe (myths, legends, ghosts, elves, fairies, tales)
On foot: Walk around, look at and listen to Europe (visual and musical arts)We will offer easy and more sophisticated activities and tools for all of you to be able to participate and learn.
If you are running a collaborative project which you think would fit in any of the “means of transport”, please email the collaborative area coordinator:
Brigitte Parry, at brigitte.parry@eun.orgSend me the name of your project, its URL, a short description and the reason why you think it should be displayed here.
Think about ways to launch collaborative activities related to your project on eSchola week.

_________________________________________________Chat March 15: Enlarging the EU
The next chat will deal with the enlargement of Europe.
Enlargement is one of the most important opportunities for the European Union as it prepares for the 21st century. It is a unique, historic task to further the integration of the continent by peaceful means, extending a zone of stability and prosperity to new members.
In March 1998 the EU formally launched the process that will make enlargement possible. It embraces the following thirteen applicant countries: Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Turkey.
We are all, as European citizens, involved in this unprecedented process.
Work on this topic with your pupils and register your school. Be quick, we only take a maximum of 10 schools for each chat. Only registered myEurope schools can take part in myEurope activities.
To join the network:
http://www.en.eun.org/myeurope/MyEurope2/submit_school1.cfmTo register for the chat, email Brigitte and Petru at:

Please take a look at this amazing gallery of European drawings and send us yours!
The project is a meeting virtual place for all the children of Europe. They are invited to paint full-length portraits of themselves, on the vertical half of a size A4 paper. They can include personal elements of their past, present or future. Any medium is welcome - oil, crayon, or pastels. Each participant is invited to send an original painting or drawing for the virtual meeting space.

How is History Taught in your Country?
The Virtual School’s History department would like to gather information about the teaching of History in Europe. They are convinced that we can learn a lot from that. …and so am I!
Please send them explanations on how history is taught in your school, at which levels, how many hours a week, the curricula for different age groups…etc.
Then you will be able to find more interactive and collaborative bridges with European colleagues.http://www.en.eun.org/vs/history/history.html

Teaching Social Inclusion, Comenius Partnership
The aim is to look at the initial training, in-servive training, the role, needs of classroom assistants who support children towards European inclusion. This would link all sorts of schools across the spectrum of integration and inclusion.
Is anyone in Europe, including the Central and Eastern European countries interested in this collaborative project?
Please reply to Keith Ripley at:

A Viking School Camp, Comenius Partnership
In Karmøy Kommune in Norway, 30 schools have established a Viking Leirskole - A Viking School camp: a reconstructed Viking Farm and Longhouse that are used during the school year by visiting school groups - either for one day or for a four day programme. The visiting pupils become Vikings for the day, dressed in Viking clothes and working at a variety of crafts and activities.
They would like to set up a Comenius 1 School project, linking their history centre to other similar European centres. ICT will be used for communication and the setting up of a Viking website! They would like to begin the project in September 2002 with a preparatory meeting in autumn, this year.
For more details please contact.

Youth and Media Discussion, UNICEF
Join the UNICEF Youth/Media Web Message Board Discussion while you work on a media portfolio with your pupils.
The media are part of our pupils lives and they function with and according to the media at all levels. There surely is a need to step back and look at this matter at school.http://www.unicef.org/voy/misc/media.html

Latin in Cartoons, Italy Partnership
The main objective of this project is to strengthen the pupils' knowledge of Latin language and to increase their interest in the works of some writers through the contextual use of both verbal and visual languages. Since the work should be carried out by groups of students, the second objective of the project is to train pupils to teamwork.
Teachers of art and latin can get involved and the pupils should be between 16 and 19 years old.
Interesting and unusual!

More Tech Training For Swedish Teachers
Getting a computer for free seems unlikely – unless you are a teacher in Sweden! Training in using computers is essential for improving teaching methods and making practice more efficient. The Swedish government is continuing an extremely popular training programme that offers computers on extended home loan.
