Biographical information: Þorgerður was the eldest child of her parents, she was born and raised at Borg in Borgarfjorður. When she was of mature age, Höskuldur Dalakollsson asked her father for her hand in marriage for his son Ólafur Pa. When her father confronted her about Ólafurs proposal she declined it because she didn't consider Ólafur to be from a good enough family since his mother used to be a slave. Ólafur then tries to talk to her and persuade her to marry him, which worked. Þorgerður's and Ólafur's wedding was held at his parents home Höskuldsstaðir at approximately the year 960. Two or three years later they moved into Hjarðarholt. Shortly after the wedding Þorgerður's brother, Böðvar drowns. Grief stricken her father Egill decides to starve himself to death. Ásgerður, Þorgerður's mother then sends for her and Þorgerður gets Egill to give up his plan by tricking him into drinking milk and then getting him to write a poem about his son (the only way Egill was able to express his feelings was through poetry). Egill returned Þorgerður's kindness with good gifts. Þorgerður and Ólafur had eight children: Kjartan, Helgi, Halldór, Steindór, Höskuldur,  Þuríður, Þorbjörg and Bergþóra, they also fostered Ólafurs nephew Bolli Þorláksson, who  later killed Kjartan. When Bolli murdered Kjartan, Þorgerður exhorted her sons to revenge Kjartan by killing Bolli. She came along to the murdering despite her sons protest and gloated over Bolli's death. Þorgerður was a very unusual woman that could both show kindness and cruelty. She was pretty but had a vehement temper and didn't let anyone boss her around, she took matters into her own hands when it was needed, as can be seen when her brother wanted his daughter Helga the Fair to be carried out after birth, Þorgerður fostered her without his knowledge.
Þorgerður was born somewhere between ca. 930 to 940, but it's harder to say when she died, but Bollis death occurred around 1006 and the she was still up and well.
