Name of giantess: GunnlodWhere did she come from: She lives in a cave called Hnitbjorg.
Husband, children and things of value: No husband, children or things of value. But she's daughter of the giant Suttungur.
A story of the giantess: Odin wanted to get hold of Suttung's magical beer. (Everyone who drank from this beer immediately became a poet!) The beer was in Gunnlod's guardinace. Odin called himself Bolverkur and turned himself into a worm; then crawled into the cave through a hole. Inside the cave he turned himself back to Bolverkur. Then Odin told Gunnlod, who was guarding the beer, that he was willing to spend a night with her if she would pay him with one sip from the beer barrels. She agreed and the morning after Odin drank all the beer from one barrel. He offered her again to spend a night with her and the next morning he drank all the beer from another barrel. The third time they spent at night together and now Odin finished the beer, said goodbye to Gunnlod, turned himself into an eagle and flew home. He left Gunnlod crying in the cave, alone and hurt.
