Many of the students at the Akranes College are endowed with great talents!   This is where  you can see some of our artists and champions!
 

Every year the students stage a play.  This year's play was an Icelandic musical, by Ólafur Haukur Símonarson,  called Gauragangur. See a scene from the play by pressing the film icon (requires Real Player).

The most important event of the autumn term is the Musical Contest, where more than 10 pop-groups  from our school compete.  The autumn 2000 winner was the group Hemra.  By pressing the film icon you can watch Hemra (requires Real Player).

 

Katrín Baldursdóttir, Hafdís Bergsdóttir and Elín Málmfríður Magnúsdóttir Katrín was the Beauty Queen of Iceland 1999 and graduated from the Akranes College a year ago.  Elín is Iceland's Beauty Queen at the moment (for the year 2000).  She graduated from our school in February this year.  Hafdís is the West-Iceland  Beauty Queen.

Competitive sports are very popular in the town of Akranes, the most popular being soccer, swimming and golf.  Many of our students have done excellenty well in sports.

Kolbrún Ýr Kristjánsdóttir is the Icelandic Champion in various styles of swimming  and is a member of the National Swimming Team.  She's is her second year at the Akranes College.  Kolbrún Ýr was one of the Icelandic representatives at the Olympic Games in Sydney in the autumn 2000. Anton Kristjánsson studies at the line for students with special needs.  This is his second year at the Akranes College.  He's a member of the National Swimming Team of Handicapped people.

Grétar Rafn Steinsson is 19 years old.  He's a member of the National Soccer Team.

Karen Líndal Marteinsdóttir is the Icelandic Secondary Schools' Champion in Horse-Riding.  She lives at a farm in the neighbourhood of Akranes and has been a student at the Akranes College for almost three  years.

Hróðmar Halldórsson is a member of the National Team in Golf. Stefán Orri Ólafsson is a member of the National Team in Golf.

Rúnar Geir Garðarson is the Icelandic Junior Champion in Badminton.  Valdimar Þór Guðmundsson and  Friðrik Veigar Guðjónsson are members of the National Badminton Team.

Hlynur Elías Bæringsson is a member of the National  Basketball Team.
